The UN is concerned that one of the side effects of the global economic downturn will be an increase in the plight of human trafficking. Here is an AP news story as reported by Fox news.

PERSONS REPORT - TIP

Earlier this year the US Department of State published the 2009 Trafficking in Persons Report. Click here to find data and recommendations from the US government on the global problem of human trafficking.

SEPTEMBER 11- US DEPT. OF LABOR

The United States Department of Labor has released a list of products imported into the United States that are likely tainted by forced labor or child labor. Under the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2005 the Bureau of International Labor Affairs was required to compile the report to educate consumers and inform the general public about what products are tainted by slavery. The list consists of 122 goods from 58 countries.

Human trafficking can happen right under our noses. Here is a case from Union County, NC where 3 girls were forced to live in slavery for a decade as reported by WCNC.

SEPTEMBER 1- CHARLOTTE

Three US sex tourists were to be some of the first to be indited by Federal laws designed to protect minors. Each are accused of traveling to Cambodia with the intention of having sexual interactions with children for money. Click here to read the article from the Washington Post.
